Pete Lorenzen: There are some unique advantages of having Remote Infrastructure Services (RIM) for any CIO for example it can reduce IT costs and improves shareholder value. RIM also provides the flexibility to transition and transform to the next generation of infrastructure and applications. However, RIM also enables companies to focus on their core competencies, while technology part can be tackled by the experts of technology itself. The so far adoption also brings a conclusion that this application can also improve the customer experience of service levels as they can gain access to their core industry and business, whereas, technology experts manages the IT infrastructure solely.
EnterprisingCIO: What all market segments have so far adopted RIM?

Pete Lorenzen: Primary challenges driving organizations today are reducing operational expenditure, improving customer service, finding new sources of revenue, obtaining access to skilled labor, and transitioning to next generation technologies. We have been witnessing organizations cutting across industries adopting RIM so as to maintain focus on core competence and garner competitive advantage.

EnterprisingCIO: Can you briefly explain some customer\'s trend in this offering?
Pete Lorenzen: As mentioned earlier and as a leader in the space, we increasingly see clients adopt this because they require a skilled approach based on mature process expertise. Process maturity is a hallmark of the IBM offering. It helped "write the book" on ITIL standards, and the firm has a collection of standard tools, processes, and requirements that helps "industrialize" transformation activities.
One of IBM\'s key points of differentiation is its massive global footprint with 40 global delivery centers and 70 regional sites. IBM received high scores for its large service market presence and from client references based on quality of service — although it received lower scores for general satisfaction and account management.
EnterprisingCIO: RIM is gaining lot of momentum in India, what are the current challenges ahead of this market in terms of developing India as a global hub for RIM?
Pete Lorenzen: What we think is that continuous innovation is a key. And, it’s not just product innovation but business innovation - the ability to improve quality, drive down costs, increase flexibility, combine services to deliver new value. We are investing heavily and we continue to invest in our client’s service delivery platforms for the future services..
EnterprisingCIO: As far as Indian Industry is concerned, lot of demand is coming to make RIM a different identity, Industry players like HCL etc are advocating this standpoint and there is an association is also been formed. What does IBM\'s stand on this, does IBM is participating in such industry initiatives?

Pete Lorenzen: IBM has always been part of industry initiatives; We, in fact empower companies with industry leading thought leadership and help shape their IT strategy. IBM is also recognized for creating career enhancing opportunities for customers\' IT employees.
